In My Mailbox (5)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren.

This week I bought some more $5 books, and my local Angus and Robertson was closing down (aww!), so they also had some YA fiction for 50% off. I've told you before, I just can't resist a book sale!

Goodreads Summary Pages:
Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Wither by Lauren DeStefano
Elixir by Hilary Duff

I also entered a Goodreads giveaway a few weeks ago, and I won. I'd had a bad day, so when I arrived home and checked my email, I was super surprised to find an email from Goodreads advising me to expect my book in 4-6 weeks.. Well, it arrived 5 days later, and I'm very excited to get the opportunity to read it!

For Review:
The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh (ARC) - from Pan Macmillan Australia on Goodreads
The Victorian language of flowers was used to express emotions: honeysuckle for devotion, azaleas for passion, and red roses for love. But for Victoria Jones, it has been more useful in conveying feelings like grief, mistrust and solitude. After a childhood spent in the foster care system, she is unable to get close to anybody, and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their meanings.

Now eighteen, Victoria has nowhere to go, and sleeps in a public park, where she plants a small garden of her own. When her talent is discovered by a local florist, she discovers her gift for helping others through the flowers she chooses for them. But it takes meeting a mysterious vendor at the flower market for her to realise what's been missing in her own life, and as she starts to fall for him, she must decide whether it's worth risking everything for a second chance at happiness. - (Goodreads)

  3. I have been wanting to get Wither for a while now, but I still haven't gotten it. I'm still not sure about Imaginary Girls. Divergent rocked!

  4. $5? WHERE DO YOU LIVE? Haha, just kidding (seriously, I won't start stalking you now or anything).

Divergent and Wither were both fantastic! I read the first chapter of Elixir online and liked it - I should really try to get a copy from the library. Happy reading!

  5. @The Story Queen, heaps of Australian bookstores have been closing lately, so there are quite a few with really big sales on. Which is both good and bad, I guess.

I'm reading Wither at the moment - I'm not adoring it like I thought I would, but it's pretty interesting. (:
I have Divergent waiting for me on my shelf, and I've been told it's quite good, so I guess I really should get around to that one soon.

And Imaginary Girl! I almost bought that the other day, then read the blurb and thought that maybe it was going to be a really litarary type contemporary read. Turns out there's a bit of magical realism in there, so I guess I should have bought it after all. Oh well, I guess it means another trip to the bookstore for me!

You have a great mailbox this week, I hope you enjoy all your books!! :D

  11. Brett- I had thought about buying Elixir before, but it was your post about it that made me decided to buy it. I saw it on sale, and picked it up quick-smart before anybody else could get to it :P.

Tammi- They sound like great books. I really like the cover for all of my books this week.

Kristina- I guess I was in a book buying mood this week, so I picked them all up. I’ve heard Divergent is comparable to the Hunger Games, is this true?

Sonia- Haha, I live in Australia. One of the books was full price, 2 were 50% off, and the other was $5.Did you review them? I love reading what other people thought of books I’ve read.

Sas- It’s a bit sad, because the bookstores always have the good books. Lol. I’ve heard good things about all of them, so to be able to purchase them all in the same week, I was thrilled!
I’d be interested to know what you think of them once you’ve read them :). Hope you enjoy your books to!

Lux- I purchased it release day, I was so happy. Although it might be a while till I actually get to read it.
The synopsis for The Language of Flowers sounded good, so I’m feeling confident about it. I was so overwhelmed to find out I had one it!

Jennifer- This reminds me of something my grandfather said. I told him about my blog and showed him my bookshelf; he asked “where do you get your books from?” He was surprised to find out that I had bought them all. It makes it easier to buy more when they are on sale :).
I should be doing a review of Elixir, so keep an eye out for it.

Karen- Thank you for the comment on my blog. My family is proud of me, but it’s nice to know that others like it too.
I also like your blog, your bookwork is very cute.

Giota- The cover is amazing! Glad to hear you enjoyed Wither and Divergent :).

Jayne- It was the cover that first drew my attention to her book, and I was a bit hesitant to buy it after seeing the author (which I’m a little ashamed about). But I have it from a reliable source that the story is actually pretty good, so I thought I might try it.
Yes, Australian book bloggers are hard to find, so it’s always nice to meet a fellow Aussie.
